Yeah they said microtransactions so it will cost real money. Probably fairly cheap but yeah, not worth it if your looking for an advantage. Its just a skin of your char on a hero.

something id like to know but wont be answered till merc release - if you make one of your chrs a hero - what happens to them exactly , eg do they stop being a playable chr etc. Also it was mentioned its going to be a micro transaction meaning you pay for the ability - when this all goes live players are going to be stuck in wiki waiting for details so i hope anet will have on their website a manual for new stuff rather than let us fend for ourselves and screw up bigtime.

From the French site:

1 mercenary = 9 euros,
3 mercenaries = 15 euros,
8 mercenaries = 35 euros.

If currencies are converted well, and the above prices are correct, the GBP and USD prices will be about:

£8, £13 and £30
$13, $21 and $49.

The above estimates are dependent on the accuracy of this article.

Pretty excited for this. It'll be weird questing with...me.. o_o Would they only take the look of the character when we talk to the registrar? Or can we change them while on a different character?

Thats pretty expensive if you ask me, i would have liked it if 1=$5 3=$10 8=$20

But meh, no need for em anyway ill get over it.

Edit: Ok, I like that you can change what character u have on that slot. That will be helpful, but I would never buy 8? why would anyone?

Yes they will have an official FAQ in multiple languages.

And to answer the first question:

One of the big points of this feature is to have a compelling reason to invest time in alts - we wouldn't ask you to then throw that hard work away.
* You can set your runes and insignias as you would any other Hero.
* Having a one slot means that you can have one Mercenary Hero - you can update that slot to be another character if you wish, the slot can be used repeatedly. It isn't a one-time use, that'd just be mean.

You can't use a mercenary hero of yourself. So if you want to use char A as one of your merc slots for other chars, that mean char A only has access to 7 of your 8 merc hero slots, which is just enough for a full party.

Another question would be if you can keep merc heroes from deleted characters. So you roll a necro and level to 20, snapshot, delete the char, roll another necro to 20, snapshot in a new slot, delete, etc. If so that's not a process you'll be wanting to repeat too often, every time you want to switch your hero setup; if you want more flexibility in multiples of character primaries, you'll need many slots to store all the desired options.

GW complete collection is $15 here.
this says it all. if i cant have this and the option to change as needed ie-skills armor runes extra it aint worth it. i can use heros or buy another game for more stuff.

hmm would make a decent gold sink in the game. too bad it looks like it will be microtransactions only.

i'm thinking more like $10 per toon, only cuz from what i've seen only costumes are below this price, anything else that actually has substance in the game (skill packs, character rename, character facelifts, etc) are all priced $10+

didn't realize there was already a post with price estimates

What about PvP-only characters? Can I use those as mercenary heroes?
If that's the case there is really no time-wise investment. Just create some PvP characters of the professions you want, and you're done.

In regards to a full hero party, I dont see 5 or more of any one profession giving you a distinct advantage. In fact, you are most likely gimping yourself to better alternatives. But, if you want to pay for a full party of Necros, why not. Players take 6 Necros all the time and no one seems to care. Of which, those two players can easily be Necros. Does it still seem unfair? How is that different from what we can already do?

I'm sure most people will just add the toons they already have. It wont be broken.

How do you know? Seriously, how? To me it seems like it would now be possible for a player who only owned Factions to have heroes -- that's a cash shop advantage. When do you have access to loading heroes if you've bought mercenaries? On Shing Jea? In Ascalon City? Why not in Presearing? After all, you paid for it, right?

Until we see how it's implemented there's just no way to know what they're doing. And tbh, some of it could piss me off.

Also, If it has the name of your char, Even though the name will be indented on the party window...Wont it be confusing for people when they see a real name instead of a heros name? Maybe they will have an obvious differential thingy...

no offense, but considering how cheap the trilogy is nowadays, i'd rather spend my money on that instead of roughly $10 per "merc"

trilogy gives you 2 more slots per campaign and of course access to skills/missions/etc of said campaign. that to me is more of an advantage over a hero in the image of one of my toons

i'm pretty sure you get the mercs from embark beach, which is supposed to be accessable from any outpost tied to a campaign mission

1. Take Ranger
2. Dye armor all red and add as hero
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 on 4 other hero slots but using black, blue, yellow, and pink dye.
4. GO GO Power Rangers!

As has been said, it's purely pixels. Not even on the same level as paying munneh for costumes. Especially seeing as I went and pimped up my hero armour in pursuit of HoM.
